Ms. Menchu is featured in the news website, elmundo.es Solidaridad, for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

This extraordinary woman is an icon of the native Guatemalans.

In her movie, When the Mountains Tremble, Menchu narrates her role in during the civil war. This documentary examines a war that was indifferent, yet affected many Mayans.

The national flag of Guatemala was established in 1871. The weapons in the center represent the country's struggle to maintain its independence.

 

 

 

Guatemala, located in Central America, is bordered by the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans.

 

She serves as a voice for the natives in her homeland, speaking continually on behalf of them.

She featured as a strong woman from Chimel village in the article "Freedom Hero- Rigoberta Menchu" by Taryn from Spokane.

 

Ms. Menchu was featured on the mural La Lucha Continua, by Scott Bradley.

 

Her book became somewhat controversial for its exaggerations on the real Mayan lifestyle.

Her recognition "took the world by storm" when she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.

 

Even now, Menchu continues to reach out to people, by sharing knowledge and forming alliances around the world.
