Barack Obama- A Modern Day Superhero

Civil Rights

            Even today, we still have cases and problems with race as its root. Some people still believe that the color of skin is a big thing and they consistently argue about it. Not just the whites do this, but the blacks, the Asians, and the people with many different heritages. You have them fight each other and hurt each other over this issue. Barack Obama seeks to end all of this unnecessary violence as the first African-American president of the United States of America.

Community Organizer

            As a community organizer, Barack Obama worked to help the lower class citizens of Chicago, Illinois to unite and fight for their rights. He worked in an organization of black churches that helped families. He worked closely with the residents at Altgeld public housing of Chicago to help them get their jobs back and get their lives back in order. He succeeded.

Lawyer

            After he graduated from Harvard Law School, he once again helped the lower class citizens of Chicago. This time he encouraged black citizens to register to vote, so they'll have the power to choose who to lead them. He was able to convince 150,000 African-Americans to register to vote and with that, for the first time in Chicago history, the number of black voters outnumbered the number of white voters.

            With his skills as a lawyer, he also presided in many cases of human rights, discrimination, abuse, and other major issues. He worked to give people the rights they deserved at work and at home. He worked at the Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland law firm, where he was an associate attorney, and he also worked at the Sidley Austin law firm, where he met his wife. He also taught constitutional law, inspiring many future lawyers, at the University of Chicago Law School from 1993 to 2004.

Senator

            As senator of Illinois, he also fought for numerous human rights. He made programs to help get money from tax cuts to low income families, the Earned Income Tax Credit program, and he also encouraged early education. He also improved the law enforcement in Illinois, when he found that people who were on the death row were innocent. He made it so that all interrogations and confessions concerning people on death row had to be recorded. He also made it so that war veterans that lived in Illinois got the disability pay and the care they deserved.

            As the U.S. senator for Illinois, he helped improve education, the environment, security, defense, energy, crime, health care, and immigration to the United States. He passed numerous acts to improve these and funded many programs. For example, he passed the American Fuels Act, which helped improve the environment by ending the use of biofuels and he also passed the Lead-free Toys Act, which bands any toy containing lead that may be harmful to kids. He worked hard to improve all these aspects in not only Chicago, not only Illinois, not only the United States, but the world.

Present

            Today Barack Obama runs for president of the United States to improve the lives of the people in the U.S. and the world even more. As president he plans to end racial profiling and enforce the civil rights. He plans to fix the court system to have more courts for drug abusers and hate crimes. He plans to fight for woman's rights by passing the Fair Pay Act, which makes it so that women get paid for the same amount of work as men do. He also plans to make a number of programs to help ex-offenders readjust themselves into society and have a peaceful life.
