Growing up, the members of U2 had been fascinated with the United States. In their eighth album, "Rattle and Hum," the band addresses their childhood curiosity, but also the saddening unpleasant aspects they were realizing existed as they became older. As Bono described,   "there was the dream and the nightmare side by side." "Rattle and Hum" is also the title of a movie produced about the band, which includes live footage and band interviews.
