Dorothea Dix
Dorothea Dix was a lifelong advocate for the mentally insane. Deeply disturbed by what she saw as the inhumanity in their treatment, she tirelessly campaigned to improve their treatment in prisons and in hospitals, fought for the rights of the mentally impaired, and pushed for the construction of state-funded mental asylums. |
