Yasmin Peña is a member of the class of 2001 at Boston Latin School.
She has lived in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood her whole life, and, an
avid baseball fan (PEDRO! PEDRO!), she plays on her school's varsity softball
team. Being the more active force behind the website, the topic of the Mirabal
sisters seemed appropriate to her for this competition after hearing stories
about them from her parents, who are originally from the Dominican Republic.
She has many things in mind for the future, including attending the U.S.
Air Force Academy to become a pilot or studying filmmaking at Boston University.
Her love of animals led to her volunteering at the Massachusetts Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) animal shelter and landed
her a job at PETCO, a pet store with a giant fish named Monstro.
